Complete your Papua New Guinea Medical

Whether you are visiting Papua New Guinea as a visitor, for work, or residency, you need to complete a medical examination by a certified doctor together with a medical questionnaire followed by a series of laboratory tests. Laboratory reports need to be attached with your visa application including your HIV test and chest X-Ray.

  • HIV Blood test. This will be performed at the same time as your medical examination by either a doctor or nurse.
  • Chest X-ray.
  • Urine test.

Instructions for the medical examination:

Visa applicants, irrespective of age, need a medical examination by an accredited doctor. Please remember you must schedule your examination at least ten days before your visa application.

What things do you need to bring to your appointment?

Our doctor will ask for the following items to complete your visa forms:

  • A copy of your immunization records.
  • Medical records of past surgeries or illnesses.
  • Four 3x4 recently taken photos.

How to book?

You will need to book online or phone us on 0207 096 8853. (Please indicate in the notes section in the online booking form that you want a Papua New Guinea Visa Medical.) We will be happy to answer any questions you may have simply call us or send us an email for more details.

It is important to speak with the doctor as the requirements depend on your length of stay, any pre-existing health conditions and your health generally. Discussing this with our doctor will ensure that you are adequately covered and receive the necessary up-to-date vaccines and medicines for your protection.

In addition our clinic can help you get the right and recommended vaccines if you need additional help with these and are at affordable prices. (See our prices and fees page for more information). Our vaccines are consistently updated depending on the current requirements.

Recommended immunisation vaccines:

Make sure all scheduled vaccination courses (especially children) are up to date with the usual immunisations including the seasonal flu vaccine and MMR.

Typhoid: There is currently a high risk of typhoid in this country.

A booster is usually recommended for Poliomyelitis.

Other vaccines to consider:

  • Tetanus;
  • Tick Borne Encephalitis;
  • Diphtheria

Recommended vaccines - for those at higher risk:

  • Cholera;
  • Japanese Encephalitis.

Yellow fever vaccination certificate required for travellers aged 9 months or over arriving from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission and all travellers transiting through an airport of a country at risk of yellow fever.

Malaria Prophylaxis:

It is essential to avoid mosquito bites by covering up with clothing such as long sleeves and long trousers especially after sunset, using insect repellents on exposed skin and, when necessary, sleeping under a mosquito net to prevent catching malaria and/or Dengue Fever.

Suitable anti-malarial tablets containing atovaquone/proguanil OR doxycycline OR mefloquine are usually advised in high risk areas and can be bought over the counter in U.K. chemists. Please avoid buying tablets over the internet as they may not contain the correct medication and be a fake version.

If you develop a fever seek medical attention promptly when travelling in a malaria prone area. (Malaria can develop even up to one year after exposure.)

If travelling to an area remote away from any medical facilities, carrying a standby emergency treatment for malaria is worthwhile.
