Brunei Visa Medicals

Instructions for the medical examination:

Visa applicants, irrespective of age, need a medical examination by an accredited doctor. Please remember you must schedule your examination at least ten days before your scheduled visa interview.

Whether you are visiting Brunei for work or residency, you need to complete a medical examination by a certified doctor together with a medical questionnaire outlining your past medical history followed by a series of laboratory tests. Laboratory reports need to be attached with your visa application including your HIV and VDRL tests.

  • HIV, Syphilis.
  • Liver function tests.
  • Hepatitis A & B.
  • Pregnancy Blood Test for Women.
  • ECG. - This will be performed at the same time as your medical examination by either a doctor or nurse.
  • Urine test.
  • Stool test – this is done to check bacterial parasites. Only given for applicants who will be working in a food-handling.
  • Chest X-ray.
  • Tuberculosis – especially in children under 16 years who have not been vaccinated.

Vaccination Requirements

For travellers:

Make sure all scheduled courses (especially children) are up to date with the usually immunisations including the seasonal flu vaccine, MMR, DPT.

  • Hepatitis A and B;
  • Tetanus;
  • Japanese Encephalitis;
  • Typhoid;
  • Rabies;

Yellow fever vaccination certificate required for travellers aged 9 months or over arriving from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission and all travellers transiting through an airport of a country at risk of yellow fever.

BCG (vaccine is recommended for):

Children under 16 years of age, who are unvaccinated and going to live more than 3 months in Brunei. (A tuberculin skin test is standard prior to vaccination for children from 6 years of age and may be recommended for some younger children.)

Unvaccinated, tuberculin negative individuals who intend to work in: healthcare, laboratory, with animals i.e. vets and in a Zoo or abattoir.

BCG vaccine is given only once. Booster doses are not recommended.

What things do you need to bring to your appointment?

Our doctor will ask for the following items to complete your visa forms:

  • A copy of your immunization records.
  • Medical records of past surgeries or illnesses.
  • Four 3x4 recently taken photos.
  • Your passport and a photocopy of the biographical page in your passport.
