STD Testing

Sexual health screening includes a consultation with one of our doctors who will discuss your concerns and give you an examination in respect of your sexual health to determine if STI testing is required. Any positive tests will be followed up with a conversation, over the telephone if needs be, with the doctor once the results are available and a treatment plan with the choice of medications available.

It is important to get tested after having unprotected sex with a new partner or partners to rule out potential problems, whether you have symptoms or not. Getting tested allows detection of the infection early and prevents it from developing into a serious threat to your health or the health of your partner later on.

When should I get a full STD test done?

Unsafe sex in a new relationship or if you are experiencing symptoms it is relatively easy to get checked out with a sexual health screen. It is safe, confidential and quick. Once the doctor has done a thorough examination he/she may recommend further investigations and a full health screen recommended. Certain tests may need repeating after the appropriate window period. The doctor may even suggest multiplex testing which achieves a more accurate early detection for hepatitis B, C and HIV.

YOUR HEALTH, OUR PRIORITY

What tests does a full sexual health screen include?

The full STD testing package includes P24 antigen for HIV detection, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV I & II, Herpes, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Syphilis, and bacterial infections, Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma. The doctor may take a blood sample, a urine sample and/or swabs to discover any presence of either of these infections.

How can you get prepared for the test?

You will need to have a full bladder when you attend your appointment so we recommend you refrain from urinating for at least 2 hours prior to the appointment to get the most accurate results. Do not forget to inform the doctor or health professional if you are taking any medications, and inform us what it is prior to the test as it may affect the test results.
