FAQs about Pre-employment Medical Examination

What will I do if I’ve had an injury in the past?

Our doctor will evaluate the injury and determine if there are ongoing risks to manage at the work place.

Make sure you answer all questions to the practitioner about your past medical record accurately and honestly. This ensures you are not in a position that causes injury to yourself or your colleagues of which your practitioner might not know.

Do I need to bring any documents with me to the appointment?

Yes, you will have to bring a photo ID like your driving license at the appointment. Otherwise, you won’t be able to conduct medical check-up. In case you wear prescription glasses, lenses or hearing aids, you should bring them with you.

What should I wear at the appointment?

There is isn’t any dress code for the examination but you will probably need to remove clothing at certain stages as part of your medical check-up. It is advised you wear comfortable and loosely fitted clothes.

What else do I need to consider for my medical test?

  • The time needed depends on the examination to be done, but typically will be between an hour or two long.
  • Audiometry or the hearing test won’t have any side effects. However, you should avoid exposure to loud noises for a few hours before the medical examination, as this can affect testing results.
  • Spirometry or lung function test might be needed and you may use an inhaler before the evaluation. It is suggested you do not smoke before the medical test.

What will happen during the medical examination?

The medical assessment is based on several requirements related to the position you take up post-employment. Usually, our doctors will be assessing your abdomen, chest, spine, neck and all the joints carefully, but if you will be working in specific sectors - such as cruise ships, you will require further screening.

Why do I need to perform alcohol and drug tests?

You might be asked to undergo urine drug screening for drugs or alcohol. This includes – amphetamines, cannabinoids, opiates, methamphetamines, benzodiazepines, and sleeping tablets.

It is advised that you drink 2 to 3 cups of water before having the urine test. In case you over dilute urine, this will be shown by determining the creatinine level in your urine. If the creatinine level is extremely low, the sample should be recollected for accuracy.

Can I get a copy of my medical tests?

We have a strict privacy policy for the medical examinations and tests. This will be followed for collecting and disseminating your personal details. You need to inform is how you want to obtain the results, whether you conduct screening for your employees or for yourself. Any information sharing is strictly by opt-in, informed consent.
