The test for HIV antibodies helps detect antibodies to the virus in your blood. Antibodies are proteins that the immune system produces when fighting an infection; different antibodies are produced to fight different infec-tions. The HIV infection produces its own proteins called antigens. The antibodies you produce in your body are designed to fit these antigens perfectly and lock them away for your immune system to deal with and kill.
The window period to perform this test is 10 days to 4 weeks after infection in order to get the most accurate result.
The P24 test is a blood test. A needle is inserted into a vein near the elbow and little blood is extracted. You may feel a pricking or scratching sensation.
You may choose how you receive your results. We can call you, e-mail or contact the clinic yourself. We do not send or receive text messages.
