What Medical Examinations are Required for having an Immigrant Visa

An immigration visa medical examination is a necessity when applying for a visa. The medical examination usually consists of a medical history check, physical examination, chest x-ray, and blood tests. It can be carried out by private doctors in London who perform visa medical services.

However, children under the age of 15 are not usually required to undergo chest x-rays or blood tests, but they must have immunisations and a general physical examination.

The physical examination will include an analysis of the eyes, ears, nose, throat, extremities, heart lungs, lymph nodes, skin, and external genitalia.

During a visa medical examination, it is likely that a panel of doctors will be in charge of the examination so you must discuss your medical history and current conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and pregnancy to enable them to make an accurate report. The cost of a visa medical examination and vaccinations vary depending on the applicant’s age, medical history, and current medical condition.

A visa medical examination is not a comprehensive health screen. It is only for specific investigations required by the migration laws of the country you are applying for. A visa medical examination should not be considered as a substitute for a full physical examination, diagnosis, consultation, or treatment by a primary health provider as it does not cover all areas of a physical examination.

During a Kuwait visa medical test in London, the panel of doctors might find other health issues that are not involved in the visa medical examination requirement but they are required to examine you for them or provide you with a diagnosis or treatment.

Medical conditions and history that affect immigration visa medicals

  • Mental issues

During your visa medical examination, you will need to tender a report if you have mental retardation or learning disabilities. This report should outline your problems and the special requirements you need regarding education and supervision.

If you have ever displayed a harmful or violent behaviour which caused injury to people or animals or harm to inanimate objects, you must provide information that will enable the panel of physicians to determine if the behaviour was related to any psychiatric or medical problem or drug and alcohol use. Harmful behaviours that will be taken into consideration during a visa medical examination include attempted suicide or self-harm no matter how minor it was.

If you have ever been treated or hospitalised for psychiatric or mental illness, alcohol or drug abuse, you must present a written certification during your visa medicals. This certificate must contain the diagnosis, duration of treatment, and prognosis.

  • Tuberculosis

If you have ever tested positive for tuberculosis, you must bring a certificate from your doctor which contains information on the circumstances surrounding the positive test result, treatments completed, and duration of treatment.

The certificate you will tender during your medical check for visa Dubai that prove you have been treated for tuberculosis must be written and signed by a doctor. The certificate must include dates and types of medication taken.

If you have previously had an abnormal chest x-ray result, you will need to present the last x-ray film during your medical examination. Your previous x-ray film would be compared to the one that will be taken during your immigrant visa medical examination.

  • Syphilis

You must present a certificate that was signed by a doctor or public health official showing that you have adequately been treated of syphilis if you have ever tested positive to it. The same applies for previously testing positive for VDRL or other blood tests for syphilis.

  • Pregnancy and chest x-ray

For a country using 2007 TB technical instructions, a pregnant woman must first consent to have a chest x-ray. To protect the health of the unborn child, the panel physicians and laboratories should provide abdominal and pelvic protection with double layer, wrap-around shields before taking a chest x-ray.

For countries using 1991 TB technical instructions, a chest x-ray for a pregnant woman is temporarily exempted but to grant the temporary exemption, the pregnant woman must present a written certificate to prove that she is pregnant. Her physician or obstetrician must sign the certificate.

  • Chronic medical conditions

If you are currently being treated for a chronic medical condition or taking medications regularly, you would be familiar with the medical condition or the names of the medications you are taking. In case you are not sure of the diagnosis, have your doctor prepare a certificate that outlines the problem, ongoing treatment, and prognosis. You also need to present a list of the medications you are taking.

  • Menstrual period

Females having their menstrual period can go through with the visa medical examination because it would not interfere with the process.
